For people wishing to apply for a position in the Navy, Army or Air Force the first stage of the process is the YOU Session. You will attend this at the Defence Force Recruiting Centre closest to you.
Aptitude Evaluation
You will undertake an evaluation to determine which position(s) may suit you. Please review the Guide to Aptitude Testing for Joining The ADF which illustrates some examples of the types of questions you will have to answer.
Medical Interview with a Nurse
You will have a brief medical interview with a nurse.
Information session
There will be a general information session on careers available within the ADF and lifestyle in the Navy, Army and Air Force. You will have the opportunity to ask any questions you might have at this stage.
Interview with a Careers Counsellor (CC)
After the Information Session, a CC will discuss the opportunities available to you based on the results of your aptitude testing. Depending on your suitability and level of interest, you may be invited to undertake further evaluation at a later date for current positions available in the ADF.
After completion of the YOU Session, your Case Manager will contact you to discuss the session and whether or not you wish to proceed with an application for a position in the ADF. If you wish to proceed, you will be provided with information on the next step in the recruitment process.
What you'll need to bring
When attending a YOU Session, you will need to bring along a Photo ID like a drivers licence or passport.
If you are not yet 18 years of age, you will need to have the Consent to test form signed to allow the evaluation and medical interview to occur.
Other items you may wish to bring
If you have final education documents, trade qualifications or employment history records these may help us in refining the opportunities available. Should you choose to proceed, these will be required at a later stage.
